Pastor Ernie Wagner began his ministry at Heritage Baptist Church as an interim pastor in the fall of 1995 and then was installed as the senior pastor on January 1, 1996. With a firm belief that the Bible should be a church’s main focus, his preaching and teaching is primarily expository (going through an entire book of the Bible in a series format). He also covers topics and current issues from time to time. He is a “people person” and considers relationships high on his agenda. He believes Christianity is personal and we need to maintain close bonds as we go on this journey together.
Pastor was raised in a Christian home and accustomed to regular church attendance. Because of this, he grew up believing he was a Christian. When he was 16 years old, he became involved with a youth group through high school contacts. That summer he went on a camping trip and while there, asked Christ to be his Savior. This was July 4, 1980. An American Christian "born" on the 4th of July! Pastor has sensed God’s call for ministry since he was saved in 1980. Throughout his schooling and ministry opportunities, and with the counsel of many godly mentors, this call has been made sure.
Since Heritage Baptist Church is a small church, Pastor has had to work part-time for most of the years he has served here. He has been a substitute teacher most of that time, but has also worked in maintenance roles with a campground, housing association, and an equipment rental business. He also serves his township on the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. He enjoys spending time with his wife Lynn, and daughter Whitney by fishing, playing games, and having camp fires.
